The Mueller Health Foundation is a family-led philanthropic organization established in February 2015. We support innovative, accessible and affordable solutions that transform the treatment of health infectious diseases across the globe.

We do this by addressing latency and increased antimicrobial resistance as the underlying core problem.

PRESIDENT & FOUNDER

Peter Mueller, PhD

With over 30 years of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience as a scientist and executive, Dr. Peter Mueller is the President of the Mueller Health Foundation. His career has focused on researching global research and development, drug discovery, and development programs across infectious diseases, immunology, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, and other therapeutic areas.

Ulrike Mueller

Ulrike Mueller serves as a Director for The Mueller Health Foundation. Ulrike has shown a life- long commitment to her passion for finding a cure for infectious diseases. She studied in Ulm, Germany and graduated top of her class to become a medical technician.

In her professional life, she has spent many years working in laboratories at the University of Ulm, Germany to help identify treatments for a wide range of diseases. Ulrike has always had a particular interest in tuberculosis (TB) and is overlooking current program developments at The Mueller Health Foundation.

Judith Mueller

Judith Mueller serves as the Executive Director for The Mueller Health Foundation. Prior to working for The Mueller Health Foundation, Judith worked at KPMG for the Development and Exempt Organization (DEO) group. 

She focused her time on providing client facing consulting services in the areas of process optimization, grant reviews and grant performance assessments, data analytics and impact measurement, and enterprise risk management for private and corporate foundations, NGOs, and Corporate Citizenship initiatives. She is also the co-creator of KPMG’s Value for Money tool.

Peter Mueller, PhD

President, Mueller Health Foundation

With over 30 years of global pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience as a scientist and executive, Dr. Peter Mueller is currently President of the Mueller Health Foundation. Previously, from 2014–2016, he was President of R&D and Chief Scientific Officer of Axcella Health, where he brought several clinical candidates to proof of concept addressing dysregulated amino-acid homeostasis as a root cause for specific metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases.

Prior to Axcella Health, Dr. Mueller served as Executive Vice President, Global Research and Development and Chief Scientific Officer for Vertex Pharmaceuticals from 2003–2014. He provided strategic and operational oversight for Vertex’s worldwide drug discovery and development programs, including clinical, nonclinical and pharmaceutical development, quality assurance, quality control and manufacturing.

His leadership contributed to the successful approval and launch of Incivek® in 2011 and Kalydeco® in 2012, the NDA/MAA submission of Orkambi® in 2014, and several proof-of-clinical-concept candidates across infectious diseases, immune-mediated inflammatory disease, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

Before Vertex, he served as Senior Vice President of Research and Development for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, overseeing global research programs and the development of drug candidates across North and South America, Canada and Japan. He was substantially involved in the development of Spiriva®, Combivent®, Atrovent® and Viramune®.

Dr. Mueller received his undergraduate degree and PhD in Chemistry from the Albert Einstein University of Ulm, Germany, where he also holds a professorship in Theoretical Organic Chemistry. He completed fellowships in Quantum Pharmacology at Oxford University and in Biophysics at the University of Rochester.

His fields of study include synthetic organic chemistry, computational chemistry, RNA biophysics, atherosclerosis research, immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, infection, oncology, gene and epigenetic technology, artificial intelligence, and management and business strategy.

He is a member of various scientific and political societies and currently serves on the Board of BioXcel Therapeutics and the US–India Chamber of Commerce Biotech. Among his many honors, he received the prestigious Prix Galien award.

Executive Director, Mueller Health Foundation

Judith Mueller serves as Executive Director of the Mueller Health Foundation. Before joining the Foundation, Judith worked in KPMG’s Development and Exempt Organization group.

She provided client-facing consulting services in process optimization, grant reviews and grant-performance assessments, data analytics and impact measurement, and enterprise risk management for private and corporate foundations, nongovernmental organizations and corporate-citizenship initiatives. She is also a co-creator of KPMG’s Value for Money tool.

Before KPMG, Judith served as Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Impact at Projects for All, a nonprofit organization focused on building internet-enabled, solar-powered computer hubs in remote villages to provide vulnerable communities with access to educational materials and internet connectivity.

Judith holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a Master in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. During her time at Columbia, she completed a fellowship with NASA and worked in the Energy and Environment Bureau at UNDP, with a focus on least-developed countries.

She also consulted Small Island Developing States on the creation and implementation of a sustainable-energy fund. Judith graduated summa cum laude with a BA and departmental honors in International Economics and International Affairs from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. She spent a year at Oxford University studying economics and completed executive education focused on blockchain and artificial-intelligence technologies at MIT.
